The are two vacancies in the Information Technology Department.
Application Development Assignment: This assignment is responsible for providing application support, integration, and may also include the development of applications, interfaces, and reports against multiple SQL databases supporting vendor-purchased application solutions. Performs complex diagnostics and troubleshooting in support of designated applications including internally developed applications as well as vendor purchased solutions. Creates test scripts and performs quality assurance (QA) reviews with the goal of increasing the percentage of successfully implemented changes with a reduction in defects. The IT Engineer II is expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the technologies supported, and mentors and actively shares this expertise with others. This class may perform technical and/or project leadership for a medium- to large-size project at one time or multiple small- to medium-scale projects concurrently. Works independently with little oversight.
Common duties include: performing work on multiple assignments simultaneously such as configuration, integration, development, testing, and resolution of problems for systems; assessing, troubleshooting, and following established guidelines in the escalation of hardware, software, and networking problems; initiating and/or maintaining Incident Reports (IRs) using an on-line incident management system; documentation; controlling changes in application environments to ensure stable and reliable delivery of services; coordinating and mentoring staff; developing and analyzing data for problem resolution and strategic planning; implementing, maintaining, and monitoring systems and their related subsystems; participating in projects and/or leading small- to medium-scale projects and activities related to City applications, data, and reporting; participating in design, programming, installation, and/or implementation of information systems; planning, analyzing, designing, implementing, coordinating, and scheduling processes, procedures, and strategies for systems that function or communicate across multiple platforms; supporting computing processes executed across multiple platforms and/or networks; and utilizing monitoring, forecasting, trend analysis, and/or reporting tools. Ensures all work is done in alignment with City and IT long-term strategies.
The IT Engineer II class has regular customer interaction, which includes a wide range of assignments and project issues. Employees in this class are required to participate in team on-call support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This class is FLSA exempt-computer professional.
A successful candidate will also have the ability to readily understand business processes and assist customers with application configuration, implementation and support (vendor and hosted applications). Proficient with written and verbal communications, customer service, teamwork and collaboration, project and technical leadership, report writing, and maintaining technical and support documentation. Familiarity with SharePoint, jQuery, Entity Framework, Telerik, SQL 2012, Windows Server 2008 (and above) in a plus. Application support of financial based applications such as Tax, ERP, Banner, License and Permitting type applications, customer service and teamwork experience is highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, such as Engineering or Geography (by assignment). Application Development Assignment: Considerable (3 - 5 years) experience in application support or application development.
Special Requirements. For this position, an individual receiving a conditional offer of employment from the City of Mesa must pass a background investigation through the City of Mesa Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation prior to commencing employment with the City of Mesa (by assignment)
