Vice President for Programs
Tony Ojeda is the President of CivicTech and Associates, an international consulting firm specializing in meeting the management needs of international business organizations and local governments in the areas of economic development; international trade; strategic planning; and marketing. The firm services include organizing incoming and outgoing business missions; researching local market needs for international businesses; and organizing conferences and events both domestically and internationally. It also provides comprehensive services for foreign dignitaries visiting the area.
From 2006 to 20011, Mr. Ojeda was the Executive Director Miami-Dade County’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade, which is the official County agency responsible for promoting Miami-Dade County as a Global Gateway and enhancing access to economic development opportunities. The agency coordinates the efforts of the principal economic development agencies in Miami-Dade County with the County’s agenda to ensure a comprehensive and unified approach to economic development initiatives and programs.
Since joining Miami-Dade County in 1974, Mr.Ojeda served as Special Assistant, Assistant to the County Manager, and Assistant County Manager. In 1998 he was appointed Director of the Mayor’s Office of Protocol, International Trade and Commerce. He has worked closely with officials at the federal, state, and local levels as well as with citizens groups, community organizations, national and local media, and professional organizations. He also organized a number of major conference and events including among others the 1994 Summit of the Americas and the VII FTAA Ministerial and Americas Business Forum.
Prior to joining Miami-Dade, he served as Director of Model Cities and Community Development in Austin, Texas from 1970 to 1974.
He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Florida and completed his requirements for a Ph. D. in Public Administration from the University of Texas.
A native of Cuba, Mr. Ojeda has taught at universities in Florida and Texas as an adjunct professor. He has participated in numerous panels and has published articles in the International City Management Association’s Public Management Journal. He is also recognized as a Credentialed Manager by that association.
In addition he has served on the board of directors of several community organizations. He is a member of the International City Management Associations (ICMA) since 1969 and served as Vice President. He has also been a member of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) since 1969 and served on its National Council. In 1989 Mr. Ojeda served as ASPA’s General Conference Chair and was named “Public Administrator of the Year” by ASPA’s South Florida Chapter. In 2010 he was received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the International Hispanic Network, an organization he helped to found and where he currently serves on its Board of Directors.
Mr. Ojeda resides in Coral Gables, Florida.
