The new City Engineer/Traffic Engineer reports to the Public Works Director and will oversee the Public Works Engineering Division. Traffic engineering will include responsibilities for conducting traffic engineering; transportation planning studies and preparing traffic construction plans. The City Engineering focus will be on development review, improvement plan and final map processes including preparation of property/subdivision improvement agreements. Key priorities include development of annual goals and objectives and directing the various activities of the division; management of the CIP planning activities including; oversight and input for conceptual designs for engineering projects; monitoring and evaluating the efficiency of service delivery methods and identifying and implementing more effective approaches and systems to do so. A leadership style that is action oriented and focused on positive results and accountability is expected in this role.

This position requires a background that includes a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning or a related field along with five years of progressively responsible professional-level public sector civil engineering experience with at least three of those years at a supervisory level position managing public works engineering personnel including hiring, training, evaluating, and making disciplinary recommendations. Valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California is required and a Land Surveyor License is desirable. The current salary range is $122,316 - $163,104 annually, DOQ.
