Onslow County is seeking a strong and proactive leader to be the next Vehicle Maintenance Director who will supervise the servicing and maintenance of a variety of automotive, heavy and specialized equipment while ensuring excellent customer service to internal customers.     The County and Department: The County has approximately 1,250 total employees and is organized into 27 departments. The Onslow County Vehicle Maintenance Department serves all County departments by maintaining and repairing vehicles and motorized equipment in a new state of the art facility that the department shares with the Environmental Services Department. Preventive and routine maintenance are performed on over 300 vehicles and over 100 pieces of motorized equipment. The equipment serviced by the department includes trucks, cars, patrol cars and other Sheriff’s Office vehicles, and ambulances and other Emergency Services vehicles. An on-call technician is available for night, weekend, holiday, and inclement road service as needed. The Vehicle Maintenance Department has a budget of $573,000. Reporting to County Administration, this department of 9 is comprised of the Vehicle Maintenance Director, the Equipment Service Technician/Foreman, 5 Equipment Service Technicians, a Departmental Accountant, and an Office Assistant. Qualifications:    Minimum of an Associates/Technical degree with coursework in automotive and/or heavy equipment maintenance, or related field and extensive experience in automotive and/or heavy equipment maintenance including some supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The selected candidate will be required to maintain a North Carolina Vehicle Safety Inspection License and a valid North Carolina driver’s license.  Residency within the County is not required. The hiring range is $66,652 to $86,649 with base salary and compensation negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
